My daughter and I are two plus-sized women, using sewing as we explore new paths in our lives.
Me, I'm the mom, 54, graduated a year ago from a Master's program in counseling and now working with children on the autism spectrum and their families. I needed a "professional" wardrobe that would withstand spitting up one-year-old's and still pass at an IEP meeting in a high school. A friend gave me three HUGE bags of material; I already had a sewing machine, and the rest is history.
My daughter, on the other hand, found herself wanting to Cosplay! Since I believe in creativity more than spending $$$, I told her fine, make your own cosplay outfits. And with a few exceptions, she has! She uses youtube and fave cosplayer sites to find patterns and tutorials, and she has made some lovely outfits, in addition to thrifting and re-making stuff from Goodwill.
We are both plus-sized women, and so we have to find - or re-do - patterns to fit our sizes. I am loving Indy patterns, and my daughter is a Pinterest fiend.
Together we are testing and exploring patterns, and hope to encourage others to sew big and beautiful.
